Dopamine Fairytale is a short musical cabaret which tells the story of one woman’s journey of self-discovery and acceptance in the aftermath of divorce and the adventures that follow.
The story is woven through both spoken word and new original material which gives a classical sound to the more modern terminologies referenced in the current emotional landscape of love and life.
The music consists of around 15 songs and incidental music, written and composed by Louisa Petais. The musical style follows that of classical musical theatre and comedy cabaret. It is through these new songs in particular that it is hoped that Dopamine Fairytale can lend a new voice and sound to the plight of many who find themselves lost and found when life has other plans.
Dopamine Fairytale is more than simply a rundown of various experiences as a newly single woman, it embraces a multitude of themes which arise through each song, each episode, each bringing with it further realisation and a much deeper understanding of the human condition. How to exist in the antithesis of your own fairytale when you had spent your entire life chasing dopamine in an imaginary world which you had, for better or worse, lived life by. Through both music and the spoken word the fairytale is deconstructed, dissected and scattered as a new life is built on the ashes of dopamine past.
The themes include love and the perpetual search for it, including self-love perhaps most of all. Self-discovery and self-worth, acceptance, forgiveness, trauma, catharsis, accountability, loss, betrayal, resilience, growth and evolution.
